The house

Conjure is the only haunted attraction inside Birmingham city limits — fifty thousand square feet of it, rebuilt every year on 40th Street North. There is no guide. There is no group in front of you to follow. You find your own way out, and the house is built so that takes a while.

The story

Built in 1842 on 40th Street North, and never empty. The house itself is Mara — an ancient hunger that lived in the land long before the first brick. In 1847 it stopped Cordelia Blackthorn's heart in the parlor. Her twin offered her own life to keep it from taking anyone else.

Touch nothing.Don't touch the actors, the sets or other guests. The cast won't touch you unless you're wearing a Touch Pass.
13 and up.Under 13 not admitted. 13–16 must be with a parent or guardian.
Costumes yes, masks no.No masks, no weapons or anything that could pass for one, no scaring other guests.
Phones away inside.No lights, no cameras, no recording past the entrance.

You'll be on camera.Cameras run throughout the haunt. Entering is your consent to be recorded.

Where do I buy tickets?

Online, or at the box office on open nights. Buying online lets you choose your night ahead of time.

Will the actors touch me?

Only if you choose a Touch Pass. It comes with a glow accessory that tells the cast you've given permission. Without one, our cast is trained never to touch you — accidents happen in the dark, but never on purpose. Nobody, with or without a pass, may touch the actors.

Is it too scary for kids?

Probably. We don't recommend Conjure for anyone under 13, and we don't admit them. Teens 13–16 must come with a parent or guardian.

Is the tour guided?

No. You find your own way through. That's most of the point.

What's inside that I should know about?

Strobe lights, fog, confined spaces, dark hallways, loud sudden noises and moving parts. If you're pregnant or have a heart condition, asthma, seizures or claustrophobia, sit this one out.

Why we do it

Proceeds from ticket sales go to Andrew's Place, a non-profit providing aid, shelter and counseling to survivors of domestic violence, with a focus on the LGBTQIA+ community and our Black and brown neighbors.
